ELASTRA First To Deliver Point-and-Click Configuration and Automated Management of Application Servers in the Public Cloud

Elastra Cloud Server On Demand 1.1 Adds Clustered Apache Tomcat to Elastra’s Cloud Application Infrastructure Management Software

SAN FRANCISCO, November 3, 2008 – ELASTRA Corporation, the leading provider of software for configuring, deploying and managing complete application systems in public and private compute clouds, today expanded its Elastra Cloud Server On Demand offering with its v1.1 release to support Apache Tomcat 5.5 and provide an enhanced browser-based user interface. Elastra’s offering also supports clustered, scalable relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and EnterpriseDB.  Delivered on Amazon Web Services’ enterprise-grade cloud computing environment, Elastra Cloud Server On Demand 1.1 removes the manual processes and complexity of managing application infrastructure and middleware in the cloud, all without the need for scripting.

“In this economic environment, Enterprise IT, ISVs and application development teams will be further-pressed to meet business objectives more quickly and with fewer resources,” said Nate Smith, vice president of product development, Elastra.  “Elastra Cloud Server On Demand 1.1 enables application development and IT staff to focus on business-differentiating activities rather than mundane configuration management and reactive operational tasks.  Our architectural approach provides cloud portability so customers can design and manage their private cloud environments.”

Elastra Cloud Server On Demand 1.1 provides pre-configured clustered Apache Tomcat architecture designs and access to native Tomcat administration tools, allowing customers to deploy and manage their applications in the cloud using the industry-standard application infrastructure software and tools they are already trained to use. The system architecture designs are push-button deployed and managed in public clouds, all without the need for time-consuming and error-prone scripting.  Elastra Cloud Server On Demand 1.1 delivers a complete, scalable, pay-for-use application infrastructure environment.  With Elastra Professional Services, users can tailor the offering to meet individual project needs.

“Elastra delivers its offering on Amazon’s industry leading public cloud, giving customers peace-of-mind that their applications are running on the most robust, secure and scalable enterprise-grade solution,” added Smith. “Using Elastra Cloud Server On Demand, customers can achieve the benefits of cloud computing without previous experience or specialized knowledge of Amazon’s platform, with both minimal risk and seamless cloud portability.”

ELASTRA Delivers Cloud Portability with Support for Open Source EUCALYPTUS Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., August 19, 2008 – ELASTRA Corporation, the leading provider of software for configuring, deploying and managing complete application systems in public and private compute clouds, today announced Elastra Cloud Server support for the Eucalyptus platform.

ELASTRA’s products are designed for portability across compute clouds and currently provide support for the Amazon EC2 and S3 compute and storage environments. Because Eucalyptus exposes its virtual machines through an EC2-compatible API, ELASTRA’s portability to Eucalyptus was a straightforward addition to its platform offering.

“The Eucalyptus team has combined several useful open source technologies, including Mule, VDE, and libvirt, into a compelling service layer,” said Stuart Charlton, chief software architect, ELASTRA. “Work still remains to incorporate richer networking, storage and security capabilities, but we look forward to contributing further to building an open cloud ecosystem.”

Eucaplyptus (Elastic Utility Computing Architecture for Linking Your Programs To Useful Systems) is an open-source software infrastructure for implementing “cloud computing” on clusters. The current interface to EUCALYPTUS is compatible with Amazon’s EC2 interface, but the infrastructure is designed to support multiple client-side interfaces. Eucalyptus is implemented using commonly available Linux tools and basic Web-service technologies.

”We are excited that Elastra has set out to enable our organization to deploy complete applications in a cloud of our own making without having to go through tedious scripting or installation procedures,” said Jake Villareal, principal, KoreOne. “Innovators, like Elastra are supporting Eucalyptus and building a strong ecosystem for enhancing cloud computing. I’m really excited to see ELASTRA provide further enhancements in this area and the impact these enhancements will have on they way we use, access and optimize our computing resources.”

Elastra will be providing a limited beta for businesses that have implemented Eucalyptus in their data center. To submit your name to the beta program, please go to: http://www.elastra.com/products/try-elastra/
